Fresh fruit, in season, in West Ealing
Our fruit is bought at the market before dawn and on the display by eight. It is sold ripe, not waxed, and it tastes of what it is, which is why customers who moved away still come back for it.
Fruit at the shop
The fruit side of the shop changes with the calendar. English apples take over in September: Cox for sharpness, Gala for sweetness, Bramleys for the pie. Strawberries run on long into the autumn while they still taste of summer. Then come clementines, satsumas and the big sweet oranges, followed by rhubarb, cherries, apricots, peaches and nectarines as the year turns. Bananas, grapes, lemons, limes, pineapples and melons are there all year. If you want something for a particular dish or a particular day, ask and we will get it in.

Fruit: your questions
Is the fruit sold ripe?
Yes. We buy to sell within a day or two, so peaches, pears and avocados are ready or nearly ready when you take them home. Tell us if you want them for today or for the weekend and we will pick accordingly.
Do you sell English fruit?
As much as the season allows. English apples from September to spring, English strawberries and soft fruit from May, English plums and pears in late summer. Where the English crop is not in, we buy the best from Spain, Italy, Holland and further afield.
Can you make up a fruit box for an office?
Yes. Tell us how many people and how often, and we deliver a box of ready-to-eat fruit on the day you want it.
